Think back to the last time you were really, really struggling. Maybe you're really struggling now.
Can you think of a time when you weren't struggling?
You probably can. Just like you can usually think of a time when you were.
This is the most beautiful thing about life. Situations change. You won't always be lonely, or broke, or tired. But, you won't always be happy, wealthy, or energetic either.
The beauty of life is when you're at a low point in your life, you can look back and look forward to times when you weren't so low.
Life is a rollercoaster. You need those lows to get you to the highs.
Happiness is recognizing the beauty in life, surrounding us, but also understanding that we need the lows to recognize the height of our highs. This also serves to show us how easy it is to fall again.
Next time, you have a crappy morning where your alarm didn't go off, your hair isn't cooperating, or you spilled coffee all over yourself (how my day went today), stop for just one second and think about a way your day ISN'T going wrong.
Think about the parts of this day that are going right. Maybe you were late to work but your boss understands because you don't make that mistake often. Or, maybe your hair is doing some weird cow-lick thing in the back but you remembered to bring a hair tie. Or, you spilled coffee all over yourself but laugh it off with your coworkers because everyone spills coffee (although, I'm pretty sure I do it more than anyone).
So, have a good day because you have the ability to! Because no one has the ability to control your emotions, like you do.
